Things to do in West Cork

ROSSCARBERY

Rosscarbery is a peaceful place, on the Wild Atlantic Way, with an attractive square, and nicely decorated buildings with traditional shop fronts. Find out more about the area on the community website. Why not venture west and visit picturesque Glandore Village and the fishing village of Union Hall. Travel east to the bustling town of Clonakilty, we highly recommend a family visit to the Model Railway Village.

TASTES OF WEST CORK

You will be spoiled for choice of restaurants and bars in the village; Pilgrims, The Market House and O’Callaghan Walshe Restaurant. More casual eateries are Max Bite Take Away, Lily House Chinese Restaurant, Rosscarbery Traditional Fish & Chips and the Fish Basket Long Strand. There are three pubs in the area; the Abbey Bar, Nolan’s Bar and O’Brien’s Bar. The local hotel Celtic Ross Hotel, for both food and drink, is especially suitable for families.

BEAUTIFUL BEACHES

For those who just want to relax, there are several Blue Flag beaches a short distance from the cottages, namely the Warren Beach only 2km away. Also nearby are Ownahincha, Inchydoney and several more strands and coves to explore and offer safe bathing and golden sands. Visitors may experience the beauty of the area on horseback with expert guide from one of the local riding centres or have a picnic in Castlefreke, Dromilihy, Cononnagh or Rineen Woods.

ON THE WATER

For the angler, Rosscarbery offers estuary, rock, deep sea and fresh water fishing—with bait in plentiful supply. The lagoon and estuary are great favourites with bird watchers as large numbers of duck, waders, sea and migratory birds are to be seen. At the Lagoon Activity Centre pedal boats, rowing dinghies or canoes are available for hire in the safest of surroundings whilst the children's playground and tennis courts are just nearby.

EXPLORE WEST CORK

For the archaeologist there are numerous megalithic tombs, stone circles and standing stones in the area - Drombeg being the most famous. For the historian there are many place to visit - such as St. Fachtna's Cathedral, Castlefreke, Coppinger's Court and birthplaces of Michael Collins and O' Donovan Rossa to name but a few. Local tour guides will be only too happy to tell of local history and folklore.

GOLFING

Those of you who enjoy golfing activities are spoiled for choice with two links style Pitch and Putt courses at the Warren Beach, or golfers may improve their swing or putting at the Rosscarbery Driving Range. For family fun the Smuggler’s Cove Adventure Golf Centre is not to be missed!
